Alcoholics to get free treatment

Murang’a County Governor Mwangi wa Iria has promised free treatment and rehabilitation to hundreds of youths suffering from alcoholism in the county.

Addressing the public at General Ihura Stadium during a campaign to fight alcoholism, spear-headed by journalists from Mt Kenya region, Mr Iria said Sh100 million has been set aside for the programme.

"All public health institutions are open to treat youths suffering from alcohol withdrawal syndrome. They will also get free counselling services to ensure they don't go back to drinking," said the governor.

He said the county government will facilitate weekly road shows in the region to educate the locals against alcoholism.

Currently, 30 individuals suffering from alcohol withdrawal syndrome are undergoing treatment in Murang'a and Muriranja hospitals.
