Guards seek audience with President Uhuru Kenyatta

NAIROBI: Private security guards are now seeking audience with President Uhuru Kenyatta over their welfare.

This follows a National Executive Council meeting held in Nairobi on July 4, 2015.

They say the Judiciary, Parliament and employers have let them down, and want to present their grievances to the President.

Among the issues the watchmen, who guard  homes, factories, learning institutions, social places and strategic installations, want to raise with President are low pay, poor working environment and alleged violation of their rights by courts and employers.

"We have seen the President hold meetings with various groups. We also request face-to-face talks with him because we are supplementing his efforts in the fight against terrorism and insecurity. We have written to the Deputy President about the same agenda, but not had a response from him," said Kenya National Private Security Workers' Union Secretary General Isaac Andabwa.
