Subsidised fertiliser disappears from depots

Kakamega, Kenya: Farmers in western Kenya have expressed concern over lack of adequate government subsidised fertiliser, and accused some traders of buying the commodity in bulk and reselling them exorbitantly.

This comes after a truck ferrying 100 bags of government fertiliser was impounded by residents in Malava town following a tip off.

The truck was later released by Kakamega North OCPD Justus Kitetu, after they confirmed that the fertiliser was being transported to Lugari and Malava depots.

"We are experiencing shortage of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) in our depots yet some people have them in their shops. Where are the traders getting DAP from?" complained Vincent Mwasoso at Kakamega Cereal depot offices yesterday.
