377 placements secured in extra Nyeri county schools

More than 400 students who sat for their KCPE examination have a reason to smile after an agreement between the county and the Ministry of Education was effected during this year’s Form One selection.

Last year, the county took the Ministry of Education to court for failure to honour the placement ratio for students in the extra county schools.

According to the 40:40:20 ratio guideline from the ministry for Form One out of the 15 extra county schools in Nyeri had not met the threshold, with some only admitting one per cent from the county.

On March 17 last year, the High Court ordered the ministry to compensate the county with 377 slots this year.

County Education Executive Elijah Nguyo said during the selection exercise at Nyeri Technical Institute that 410 were secured in the extra county schools.

“Due to the agreement we have compensated 377 positions as per the court directive last year for children to be admitted to the extra county schools of their choice,” he said.
