Bus runs over motorcyclist in Lodwar

A 25-year-old man died on the spot on Tuesday evening along the Kitale-Lodwar road following a head-on collision between his motorcycle and an oncoming bus.

According to Turkana Central OCPD Kirui Kipkemoi, the Dayar bus, which was coming from Kitale and the motorcyclist that was going towards Lokichar, collided about six kilometres from Lodwar town.

The police said the bus driver was trying to avoid a pothole when he accidentally run over the motorcyclist.

Avoiding pothole

“The bus and the motorcyclist came head-on when the bus was avoiding a pothole. The motorcyclist was crashed and dies on the spot,” said Kipkemoi.

An enraged mob was slowly grouping near the bus ready to burn it but were dispersed by the police and the bus escorted to the police station.

It was also suspected the the cause of the accident could have been driver fatigue as he had been driving for over ten hours from Kitale to Lodwar, affecting his vision and judgement. The OCPD asked motorists to be careful.

The body of the deceased was taken to Lodwar District Hospital mortuary. The Medical Superintendent, Gilchrist Lokoel, said the man succumbed to a depressed skull fracture and internal bleeding.
