Collapsed well kills two children, three donkeys in Libahia

Two children and three donkeys were killed on Monday morning in Libahia after a shallow well, from which they were fetching water, caved in.

Confirming the incident, Libahia Ward Rep Hussein Maalim Mohamed, who visited the scene, said the minors were trapped inside the three-metre-deep well, which is also the area's only source of water.

"We suspect the donkeys' weight brought down the well's loose edges, causing it to collapse and since the children were unaccompanied, there was no-one to pull them out and they died," he said.

Maalim said the incident is the latest in a series of deaths related to the area's water problem and urged the government to provide the commodity to locals.
