Embu Governor's brother commits suicide, leads to discovery of a missing youth

EMBU COUNTY: Shock engulfed Runyenjes sub-county Sunday morning after the brother to Embu Governor Martin Wambora committed suicide by allegedly plunging into a waterfall.

Cyrus Njeru, 53, who worked as a public health officer in Runyenjes town took his life about 11am by plunging into Nthenge Njeru falls where he drowned.

Governor Wambora said Njeru was suffering from depression and was under medication.

Wambora who spoke to The Standard on phone said Njeru would be buried on Friday and the family would meet to make further burial arrangements.

In a twist of fate, locals who went to recover his body also discovered the body of a 25-year-old young man from Runyenjes who went missing a month ago submerged in the water.

The second body was identified as that of Robert Muturi Mugo and was found tied to rocks in the bottom of the falls. The body was decomposed.

Embu AP commandant Njue Njagi who confirmed the two incidents said Njeru left his home in the morning hours and did not disclose where he was heading to.

“Locals discovered his body floating in the water and informed the police. In efforts to recover the body, we found another body,” he said.

Njagi said investigations into the incidences have been launched, adding that both bodies were removed to Embu Level Five General Hospital mortuary.
