Governor Alfred Mutua critics removed from assembly committees

Machakos, Kenya: Wiper party Members of the Machakos County Assembly have petitioned party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to intervene and have them reinstated in the house committees they sat.

The MCAs have been removed from various select committees they chaired or sat for their alleged opposition to Machakos governor Dr.Alfred Mutua.

Their removal was communicated to the house by the chairman of the Committee on Selection who is also the Majority Leader Joshua Mwonga.

“Wiper MCAs have been kicked from the various select house committees they chaired and others sat in. We urge you to intervene and have the matter reversed”, pleaded Machakos Town Ward representative Cornelius Kitheka.

The Wiper MCA who chaired the Labour and Social Welfare committee has been replaced by Muthetheni Ward Representative Leonard Kitheka.

Kitheka who together with eleven other MCAs have been branded “rebels” due to the alleged criticism of governor Dr.Mutua was relocated to the Early Childhood Education and Vocational Training committee.

Also shown the door is the former chairman of the powerful Public Investments Committee and Public Accounts Committee Dominic Maitha who has been replaced by Joseph Kalunde.

Maitha who has publicly attacked the governor’s leadership style in the past was taken to the less privileged Delegated County Legislation committee.

Alex Kathinzi was removed from the  Health Services committee to Early Childhood Education and Vocational Training committee and his place given to Cecilia Sereka.

The new Committee on Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources  chair person is Joseph Muli who replaced Collins Mbithi.

Wilson Kanui becomes the chairman of the Children, Culture and Community Services committee, taking over from Edrick Ngunzi who was moved to  Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources committee.

Ms Magdalene Ndawa who sat in the Early Childhood Education and Vocational Training now moves to Children, Culture and Community Services committee.

The “sacked” MCAs dismissed the move is illegal and vowed to fight for the reversal of the decision.
