County moves to constitute liquor board

Central;Kenya: The Kirinyaga County administration has picked James Nyamu Mwara to chair the area Liquor Licensing Board. If he gets approval from the MCAs, Mr Nyamu, a career educationist, will embark on constituting the board, which will in turn receive applications from traders wishing to operate liquor outlets in the county.

He will also be expected to regulate manufacturing and distribution of the second generation brews to instil sanity in the lucrative business.

Commenting on the development, Governor Joseph Ndathi said once the board is in place, those interested in venturing in the trade will be required to submit their applications within 30 days.

"The board will then visit and inspect the premises before giving licences," he said.
