National women’s handball champions Nairobi Water play FAP of Cameroon today in the quarter-finals of the ongoing 38th edition of Africa Club Championship in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The Cameroonian side topped Group A after winning three matches. They won 29-19 against Mikishi from the Democratic Republic of Congo, defeated Aspac of Benin 30-26, before wrapping up their preliminary round with a 37-31 victory over hosts AS Onea.

Nairobi Water, on the other hand, finished fourth in Group B. They lost three matches and won one.

Their first loss was 40-19 against defending champions Primero of Angola, 31-22 to TKC of Cameroon and 38-26 to Asel of Congo Brazzaville. Their only win, 26-24, was against Bandama of Ivory Coast.

The quarter-final match against FAP will be a re-match of last year’s encounter in Nador, where the Cameroonians won 36-20. TKC of Cameroon will face Mikishi from DRC in the other quarter-final, while Benin’s Aspac will play Adel of Ivory Coast.

Defending champions, Primero will face hosts As Onea in the fourth quarter-final clash.

This is the second time Nairobi Water have qualified for the quarters in the continental show following their 2014 qualification.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Handball Federation national league moves to St. Paul’s Universit, Limuru at the weekend, with seven matches on the card.

National Cereals and Produce Board women’s team will want to forget their painful 27-28 loss to Kenya Defence Force when they play Dedan Kimathi.

Mount Kenya University, Eldoret will play Sparklers HC before playing Dedan Kimathi in their second match.
