Egypt national women’s football team jetted in the country yesterday ahead of Friday’s match with Harambee Starlets.

This will be a second consecutive high profile match for the hosts in a span of a week following their match against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon on Saturday where the later won by a solitary goal.

Before the Friday clash, Egypt is set to play against Women Premier League champions Thika Queens in a friendly match today at the Thika Sub County Stadium from 3pm.

Thika Queens chairman Fredrick Chege said the match will act as a booster for his side as they prepare for their remaining league matches.

So far, the champions have not lost a match this season and they have remained with three matches to the end of the season. Thika Queens will face off against Makolanders this weekend and still to play against Soccer Queens and Gaspo Youth.

“Egypt has experienced players and playing a national side is a boost for us as we prepare for our remaining league matches. This match will also give the national team coach a chance to see if he can select players from our team to join the national team,” he said.

Egypt on the other hand has had a couple of friendly matches ahead of the continental show-piece. Egypt went down 1-0 against Zimbabwe and lost 3-1 to Banyana Banyana of South Africa over the weekend.

The North Africans have been drawn against Zimbabwe, South Africa and AWCON hosts Cameroon in Group A while Kenya has been drawn against title holders Nigeria, Ghana and Mali in Group B.
