General Service Unit (GSU) moved to the summit of Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men’s league for the first time this season thanks to two walk-overs and a win over Cooperative Bank last evening in Voi, Taita Taveta County.

The reigning national champions laboured to see off a defiant Cooperative Bank 3-1 in the first match.

They were then awarded six points which saw them leap frog Nairobi Water to first place after Bungoma County and Administration Police failed to turn up for the league games.

The nine points saw GSU move to the summit on 30 points, one shy of Water who surrendered the lead for the first time this year.

Water who only have a match against Bungoma County, also pushed their point tally to 29 points after beating Mount Kenya University in straights sets 25-11,25-17,25-16.

The two teams are now safely in the play-off berths set for November 25-27 in Mombasa, but former champions Kenya Prisons must not drop a set against KPA and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) next month in order to also book a slot in the play-offs.

KDF withdrew from this weekend’s seventh leg and Prisons will have to wait longer to know if they will qualify for the play-offs.

KDF who are currently tied on points (18) with fifth placed KPA, who have a game in hand, were scheduled to face-off today.
