NYONGESA’S WINNING SWING: Mombasa-based lawyer lifts 2016 Family Bank golf title

A Mombasa-based lawyer Eric Nyongesa posted a six over par 77 gross to win the overall 2016 Family Bank Club nite title at the Mombasa Golf Course at the weekend.

Playing off handicap Seven, the home club golfer levelled 12 holes and played bogey shots on both nines to lead by 70 nett in the one-day event sponsored by Family Bank.

“The course was playing well despite the heavy winds that kept affected most of my swings. But the victory is good. After being out of the leader board for a while, I think this is a good result,” said Nyongesa.

Nyali’s handicap 17 Paul Maiyo was second on 71 nett, while Mombasa’s handicap 14 Mwangi Mburu finished third on the same nett.

At the same venue on Saturday, little-known handicap 34 Lisa Holmberg from Nyali posted 42 points (19-23) to emerge the overall winner of the Family Bank sponsored golf corporate tournament.

She beat club mate George Choge by one point difference. Choge, who claimed the men’s title on a count-back score after tying points with runner-up handicap 9 Jimmy Kingo’ri, was playing handicap 20.

Mombasa’s handicap 6 Alan Dainty was third on 36 points (19-18).

Mary Mariga, playing off handicap 36, was the lady winner on 40 points (20-20) and the club’s lady captain Mary Kandu, playing off handicap 20, was the runner-up on 39 points (19-20).

Handicap 23 Anthony Getambu won the best senior prize on 32 points (14-19), while 10-year-old Andrew Wahome, playing off handicap 26, was the best junior of 21 points (12-10).

Stephen Kisevu playing off handicap 28, posted 24 points (13-12) to lift the staff prize, while handicap 21 Omar Lewa won the Best Guest prize on 35 points (22-14).

At the par 72 Karen course, home club’s Zao Zong Zhou, playing off handicap 21, beat a team 150 golfers by posting 41 Points to emerge the overall winner of the 2016 Sky Team event at the weekend.

Handicap 22 Liu Guohua was second on 40 points, while Railway’s handicap 11 E.Murungi on 38 points, was third.

The day-long 18-hole stable ford event, which featured Kenya Airways and KLM guests across the country, brought in members of the Sky Team Alliance network that has nearly 16,320 daily flights, with 1,057 destinations in 177 countries.
