Thomas Tuchel explains why Man United's midfielder flopped in Germany

Manchester United's Adan Januzaj reacts to missed chance at scoring

Adnan Januzaj's loan spell at Dortmund was a failure because part of him was "still in Manchester", according to manager Thomas Tuchel.

The Man United midfielder joined the Bundesliga side on what was supposed to be a season-long loan last summer, but returned after less than five months.

Januzaj is rated highly at Old Trafford, but managed just 12 appearances and no goals at Dortmund.

And Tuchel, who took over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer, has claimed Januzaj wasn't focussed enough to succeed in Germany.

"A part of him was always still in Manchester and we just couldn't help him cut this umbilical cord," said Tuchel in an interview for the March 2016 issue of FourFourTwo.

"He didn't wholly embrace Borussia. He always compared everything with how it had been at United."

Januzaj has made one appearance for United since his return to England, coming on as a late substitute in the 1-0 defeat at home to Southampton
