Former Gor Mahia coach Zedekiah Otieno believes K’Ogalo are better prepared than their DSTV/ Super Cup opponents, Bandari.

Gor and Bandari will face-off in the season-opening match at Mbaraki Sports Club on Saturday afternoon.

Otieno, who handles Posta Rangers, said the local champions have a greater advantage going into this fixture owing to the build-up matches they have had.

“Normally, the first match is very tricky for any coach because of the new players, who have joined the club. Remember they are also coming from the pre-season. Therefore, no one can claim to have the advantage over the other.

“However in this case, Gor Mahia are better prepared when you consider that they have played quality build-up matches in Sudan and Ethiopia,” he said.
The traditional season-opener is being played outside Nairobi for the first time since inception. It is also the first time that Bandari are taking part in it after they won the GOtv shield last season.

The porters have beefed up their squad by securing the services of experienced players, whom they hope will inspire them to do well not only in the first match, but also throughout the season.

Bandari have signed Dan Sserunkuma, Edwin Lavatsa, Felly Mulumba, Bernard Mangoli and Edwin Wafula.
The winner of the DSTV/ Super Cup will win Sh750,000, while the loser will pocket Sh500,000.

Apart from attempting to win silverware early in the season, the two teams will also use the match as a build-up to their up-coming continental fixtures next weekend.

Bandari will represent the country in the Confederations Cup, while Gor Mahia are the country’s representatives in the Africa Champions League.
