Gor Mahia returned on the local scene with a bang hammering KCB 6-1 in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

The KPL champions have been away for two weeks taking part in the Kagame Inter-Club tournament where they finished runners-up to Tanzanian club Azam.

A brace by Meddie Kageira and a goal each by Michael Olunga, Khalid Aucho, Enock Agwanda and an own goal by Mark Odhiambo did it for Gor Mahia. Paul Kiongera scored the only goal for the bankers.

It is a result that left head coach Frank Nuttall thoroughly impressed. “I had asked my boys to come back strongly and I am glad they did just that,”he said minutes after the final whistle.

His KCB counter part Elvis Ayany was dumb-founded by the huge loss, but admitted his opponents were just too good.

“They were dangerous on counter-attacks. Every time they got the ball, we were always under pressure,” he said.

Tusker's bad run extended to the second match after they were held to a 1-1 tie by Western Stima at Nyayo Stadium, also on Sunday.

The brewers last week lost 1-0 to Mathare United after a good run of results in which they scored a record number of goals, but this seems to have dried up for Francis Kimanzi's men.

Stima started well and made their opponents to concede a number of errors early. 19-goal hero Jesse Were nearly put the brewers ahead in the 25th minute after being put through by Noah Wafula, but he headed the ball the wrong way.

Baron Oketch put Stima ahead a minute after that Tusker miss after sending home a corner kick by Shafik Batambuze. Tusker came back into the match in the 49th minute when Emmanuel Ngama levelled after banging home Gabriel Andika’s spill.

Sony Sugar and Ulinzi Stars drew 1-1 at Awendo Stadium.

After a scoreless run in a good part of the match, Evans Amuoka put the soldiers ahead in the 74th minute, but this was short-lived as Andrew Sekayombya equalised for the sugar millers one minute later.

Samwel Onyango got the hosts' first clear chance in the 38th minute, but failed to get anything from it.
The result leaves Sony unbeaten since firing former coach Zedekiah Otieno while for the soldiers it left them trailing leaders Gor Mahia by nine points.

In Mombasa, Bandari settled for a scoreless draw with Chemilil at Mombasa County Stadium.

The dockers had an upper hand in the match, but failed to translate the many chances into goals.

Chemilil’s Jackson Ochieng and Joshua Oyoo played their hearts out but could not go past Bandari’s custodian Joseph Okoth.
