Herbalists ask to be included in cancer war

Eldoret, Kenya: Herbalists want to be included in the fight against cancer, saying they have an important role to play.

The herbalists from Eldoret, led by Shadrack Moimet, said they had written to First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, requesting to be included in the forthcoming 9th Conference of Forum of African First Ladies against Breast, Cervical and Prostate Cancer (SCCA) in Nairobi from Sunday 19 –Wednesday 22 July.

Moimet said cancer can be cured if diagnosed early, however, the challenge has been the delay in diagnosis and treatment.

“I treat at least one cancer patient daily, the only challenge is they perceive our help as a last resort, thus giving us hard time, but we still have several success stories,” he said.

He said most of his patients for the 20 years he has been in the field are referral cases from renowned hospitals.

“Our Government should emulate India, China and Canada, which have continued to be reference treatment States for chronic and lifestyle diseases and help herbalists get an entry point in strengthening the health sector,” he said.

Co-founder and Director General of Nikky Breast & Cervical Cancer Foundation, Princess Nikky Onyeri chose Kenya to host the 9th SCCA Conference during their 8th meeting in Windhoek, Namibia beating five countries that had bid to host.
