C Word Gone Wild

It is a mark of a great society when some issues do not get out of hand, but it is a mark of a greater society when we have the right remedy for every one that gets out of hand. In the air waves we have heard and still hear about contraceptives and how the youths have been encouraged throughout the years to use the greater C word which is to “chill” it is a one word that every youth will understand in place of abstinence.

The new idea that has sprout out of the education docket that pupils/students be given condoms in school, hits everybody as a big joke that nobody is ready to laugh to. There have been so many of us who have passed through school and done well without indulging in sexual activities, we do not want to believe that the society has come to a point where the child gets what he wants.

Most parents expressing their views on this idea say that the government should sit down and try to set their priorities right, basing it on the many proposals that have been set for the education sector and are still pending. They say first it should come up with a criteria of ensuring that schools are built in areas that have been highlighted showing lessons taking place under a tree, address the issue of girls missing classes for luck of sanitary towels and also strive to end the ever getting strong tag war of TSC and the government.

‘It makes no sense for me to send my child to school if he cannot be taught good morals, what are the good grades for?’ commented a parent. This is just a few of the many parents concerned at what else to expect in the near future, should they be pessimists or optimists? Some questions only time can help us answer.

We however cannot blame it all on the government, it still gets back to us as parents and society to instill that virtue of morality in our children. We have become too busy making a living that we have forgotten to live a life, if we only stopped for a minute to listen to what our children say to us, take a minute to ask how their day was, how they spent that pocket change you gave to them, then maybe they will just have the right reason to listen, make good judgments because you will have taught them.
