Party action is back: Nairobi, Coast get alive!

“Is there anything good going on this weekend? Any party? Any free drinks,” a Pulse fan asked, getting rather honest that it was a dry weekend, the January way.

That was last Friday. In fact, the only major thing that taking place was Frasha’s launch at Michael Joseph Centre, an invite-only event that the poor soul had not been invited to.

There at the Michael Joseph Centre, it all seemed a celebrity affair with popular showbiz faces such as Nonini, Chris Adwar, Kenzo, Blinky Bill, Jaguar, Avril, Eric Omondi, Vivian, Rabbit and Rap Damu making the bill.

And yes, here was the Music Copyright Society of Kenya CEO Maurice Okoth, Mongolo, Fundi Frank, Timmy of Wello Wello and Scott the Violinist. Where was Bon-Eye? Where was Gabu?

The launch was great and Frasha came out as his own man away from P Unit, which he still says is not breaking up. That same night, the crème de la crème of the Nairobi society came together to celebrate Kenyan fashion and beauty at the Tribe Hotel.

Dubbed the Tribal Chic, the event featured designers such as Adele Dejak, Deepa Dosaja, Nike Kondakis, Anne Mpinga, Anthony Mulli, Katungulu Mwandwa, and Niku Singh.

This was the launch of the Nairobi high society year, with so many more events to follow, including very soon-to-be-launched Fashion High Tea at Zen Gardens in February.

But that was January, traditionally a slow showbiz month and in springs February the love month that is already promising action starting this weekend.

Here in Nairobi, the Florida 2000 Group opens a new joint today, after last year’s closure of the iconic Madhouse.

Gasaro Lounge, a state-of-the-art club opens in Mtwapa tonight with popular Mombasa celebrities in attendance.

The New Year comes with new surprises and Gasaro Lounge is here to breathe new life to the entertainment scene in the Coast. It is a modern lounge, a sporty night club that is complete with a deejay and disco area, a bar, a lounge spot and a restaurant as well as residential rooms.

“We have invited almost all the Mombasa celebrities to attend the grand opening on Saturday (tomorrow) as well as fans who have anxiously been waiting for this moment,” says DJ Earnest, who is helping with the logistics.

It will be a red-carpet affair in which Cover-Drops DJs, Phauz and showbiz bad-boy Omtere will feature prominently.

Also in the Coast, another joint, Talentos Beach Resort in Shelly Beach, Likoni tonight. The opening show that has been dubbed Beach and Pool Party will also feature local artistes.

Back in Nairobi, party lovers will get treated to an uptown pool party at Best Western, Club Level Eight, and the new club sensation that has been offering themed club shows since December.
