Machakos: Despite being cheered on by hundreds of Gor Mahia fans, Ushuru could not stop Sofapaka who won their Kenyan Premier League match 3-2 in Machakos, yesterday.

Sofapaka being the biggest threat to Gor Mahia's quest to retain the KPL title, the fans were on hand to ensure Batoto ba Mungu did not win this one.

The fans cheered every move and attack made by Ushuru, taking it higher when the team scored equalising goals for a 2-2 result at some point.

Following the result, Gor Mahia cannot afford to take it easy when they take on Mathare United knowing that their closest opponents have got even closer.

Sofapaka have moved to 50 points on the log which is just one point less than leaders Gor Mahia.
Goals by John Njoroge first in the 30th minute and Dan Kago in the 47th minute looked to have ensured Sofapaka picked all three points but a late surge by their opponents almost derailed them before Antony Ndolo scored the winner in injury time.

Smarting from a six match losing streak, Ushuru were more dangerous in the second half where they took advantage of a defensive lapse by their opponents to score two goals in a span of five minutes.

First Carlson Mweresa pounced on a free ball put in space and with it easily beat David Okello in goal with the easiest of efforts in the 56th minute. At the hour mark, Sofapaka again paid for sloppy defending when Liberian forward Blatty Roosevelt found himself alone with the goalkeeper to score the second goal for his team.

But even before conceding the two goals, Ushuru looked the more dangerous side with Ivan Anguyo being denied twice from free kicks by David Okello in goal.

Then Mweresa made a good run on the flanks but the final shot went wide. Sofapaka recovered at the half hour mark getting a corner. Enock Agwanda was dangerous with long throw ins. It was from one of them that John Njoroge headed the opener opening a flood gate of goals.
