QUEENS REIGN: Hosts and Oserian Ladies prevail in Women's Premier League matches

Thika Queens won both their matches in the third round of the National Women's Premier League at Thika Stadium at the weekend.

The home team upset Spedag Ladies from Mombasa 4-1 in their first match before beating Makolanders of Nairobi 3-0.

Queens dominated their match against experienced Spedag from the first whistle, with Catherine Githae opening the scores in the 26th minute.

The home team seemed the better side at co-ordinating but Elizabeth Mwikali squeezed in an equaliser five minutes from half-time.

Benta Achieng' added salt to the already injured Spedag with a second goal in the 46th minute before Jacinta Kaara extended the lead in the 55th minute. Rebecca Akinyi scored their final goal for a 4-0 victory.

In their second encounter against Makolanders, Benta Achieng' was on target again, with Mercy Achieng' and Lucy Mukhawana scoring for the home team.

It was a sad weekend for Spedag after they lost a second match 2-1 against Soccer Sisters. Pauline Jimoni and Christine Njoki scored for Sisters as Jacky Ogol notched up Spedag's consolation goal.

Oserian Ladies from Naivasha extended their fine run in the league, grabbing two wins against Kakamega Muslims and Soccer Queens at Thika High School grounds.

The Naivasha-based side beat Kakamega Muslims 4-0 before thrashing Soccer Queens 4-0. 

Lellah Apiyo, Jacinta Winfred, Josephine Naswa and Dorcas Shikobe scored one goal each against Kakamega Muslims.

Soccer Queens put their sorrows behind to record a 3-0 win in their second match against Kakamega Muslims who had earlier suffered a 4-0 defeat by Old is Gold.

Rosa Ndunda scored a brace for Old is Gold with Lucy Njeri and Naomi Njeri on target once each against Kakamega Muslims.

Old is Gold had settled for a one-all draw against Soccer Sisters in their first match.Margaret Nyambura was on target for Soccer Sisters while Caroline Wairimu scored for Old is Gold.

Wadadia Mumias FC registered two victories to take home the maximum points. In their first match, Wadadia edged Makolanders 2-1 before beating Old is Gold 3-0.

Floria Achieng' scored a brace against Makolanders as Asuku Manjula pulled one back for Makolanders.

In another encounter, Soccer Sisters beat Lake Hawks 2-0. Hawks had forced a barren draw against Leeds Kisumu and against Makolanders.

Eldoret Falcons, who did not feature in the third leg, are expected to play in Oserian during the fourth round.
