Prostitutes, men dressed as women robbing Nairobi revelers

City hookers are colluding with crooks to steal from tipsy revelers, besides breaking into parked cars outside popular hotels and bars in Nairobi.

You are likely to be a victim around Kenyatta Avenue and Kaunda Street - where a group of commercial sex workers operate in groups, including a man dressed like women. On arriving outside City Hall Annex, the sex workers put on their nguo za kazi before positioning themselves at strategic points to attract customers.

“Around 11pm, a group of around six in company of a man dressed like woman move around inspecting parked vehicles looking valuables like laptops,” reveals a security guard on Kenyatta Avenue.

The cross-dressers break the car windows as the hookers watch out for them “but if the vehicle has an alarm, they watch from a distance before striking when the car owners switch off the alarm,” the guard added. On June 16, a group of hookers accompanied by a man along Kaunda Street attacked a tipsy man in an attempt to steal his laptop, but he was rescued by security guards on time.

Michael Kibe told The Nairobian that, “Three months ago, I left my car unattended behind Simmers, only to find one of the windows broken. Luckily, nothing was stolen.”

Wilson Musalia the Manager of Simmers Bar and Restaurant has told The Nairobian that, “This is a big problem around here, and our customers have been complaining. About three months ago, a manager of a popular beer company lost his laptop outside here.” He added that, “The hookers around here collude with robbers.”
