Estate agents to get identity cards, codes

The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Acting Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has said estate agents will be issued with identification cards and codes.

“This process ends on September 30.The Estate Agents will thereafter be issued with identity cards and identification codes. Members of the public will easily access registered estate agents any time and from anywhere,” he said.

In a speech read by Director of Administration in the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Ibrahim Hussein, during the official opening of the CfC Stanbic Homes and Auto Expo last week at KICC,  Matiang’i said  the ministry would also fast-track issuance of title deeds.

The third edition of the CfC Stanbic Home and Auto Expo came with a special offer on mortgage and car loans.

For those making applications for facilities during the expo over its three-day period, the bank offered mortgage facilities at a special rate of 14.99 per cent and vehicle and assets financing at 16.75 per cent.

Aim

Matiang’i lauded CfC Stanbic Bank for working with developers to increase housing units in the country. “As a ministry, we acknowledge housing as a big challenge especially in urban areas with a shortfall of about 250,000 housing units per year,” said Dr Matiang’i.

CfC Stanbic Bank Chief Executive Phillip Odera, said the aim of the expo was to simplify home and auto ownership by bringing developers, automobile dealers and end users together.

“There is a perception that mortgages are expensive and therefore out of reach for the ordinary mwananachi but this is largely due to misconceptions around the mortgage processes. Through this expo, we want Kenyans to fully understand that anybody can indeed be a home owner if he/she gets the right advice and take the right products,” said Mr Odera.

“We understand that savings for a deposit for a loan is not an easy task but should not be a hindrance to those intent on owning homes or cars,” Odera added.

The three-day event, co-hosted by Radio Africa, featured vehicle financing, home loans, share trading, savings solutions and insurance.
