Mount Kenya University to receive Sh 88 million for executive trainings

A local university will receive Sh 88 million grant from Denmark towards developing executive training programmes.

The executive training arm of Mount Kenya University (MKU), Equip Africa Institute will receive US$ 1 million from the Royal Danish Embassy to develop the programmes.

The money, which is given under the Danish International Development Agency Business Partnership grant, will support the knowledge transfer of the Institute's Executive Masters in Business Administration (EMBA) programmes.

At the same time, MKU has signed a memorandum of understanding with Copenhagen Business School-Executive (CBS-E), to have the two institutions share best practices in professional training, especially on business and executive programmes.

MKU Chairman and Founder Simon Gicharu last week signed the MoU on behalf of Equip Africa Institute, while CBS-E was represented by Kim Pedersen, Program Director, and Mogens Bjerre, an Associate Professor.

Under the MoU, Equip Africa Institute will be offering an Executive MBA (EMBA) programme in partnership with CBS-E.

"This MoU accentuates Equip Africa's reputation as the best provider of executive training courses in East Africa. We will continue developing capacity among individuals, mostly middle-to-high level managers, governments and non-governmental organizations," said Gicharu yesterday of the agreement.

He said the mission of Equip Africa Institute's is to impart skills, competencies and expertise that enhance self-development and continually breed creativity and innovation.

The Institute director Dr Jane Njuru hailed the signing of the MoU, saying it asserts the Institute's reputation as the ideal for executive training.

"This programme is a game changer for how African business leaders develop personal leadership skills and build competitive organizations," said Dr Njuru.

The EMBA programme will have three modules; Post Graduate Diploma on Leadership, Business and Competition, a Post Graduate Diploma on International Business Expansion and Executive MBA Degree (Leading Business Development).

During the Denmark tour where the deals were signed, the Equip Africa Institute team, who included the MKU Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic & Research Affairs Bibiane Waiganjo and Linda Mwangi (Program Coordinator, Equip Africa Institute), also visited the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, as they university acquainted themselves with the operations and training in media.
