Barely two months after winning KSh1.8 million at the Kalenjin Music Festival Awards, celebrated songstress Vicky Brilliance found herself at the centre of a storm, this time, not in the music industry, but in her marriage.
The 'Wababa' and 'Omisenin' hitmaker recently took to social media, revealing a distressing chapter of her personal life that she claims she had kept hidden for the sake of her two children and her career.
In a heartfelt post, the 24-year-old singer from Mengit village, Bomet County, accused her husband, Silas Kiplangat, popularly known as Baba Boys, of domestic violence and jealousy.
“The truth is, I have been in hell, and it didn't start yesterday… Mtu akilewa ni kukupiga tu mbele ya fans (when my husband gets drunk, he assaults me in front of fans). It’s so unfortunate that he had an advisor who convinced him to kick me out after I completed the mansion I was building,” she wrote.
Vicky disclosed that despite handing over her entire KSh1.8 million prize money to Kiplangat for the construction of their home, their marriage had turned toxic.
The singer further alleged that the violence extended beyond her, claiming that her husband had also slapped their four-year-old son.
"Imagine kupigwa mbele ya mtoto na panga… So traumatizing! (Imagine being assaulted in front of my child with a machete… It’s so traumatizing!),” she lamented.
In a TikTok live interview, Kiplangat dismissed the allegations, insisting that Vicky’s latest music video for Omisenin was the real source of their troubles.
The song, which reflects on a past love, features her ex-boyfriend, DJ Wesso, a prominent Kalenjin music producer, as the main vixen.
“I was upset by the video shoot of my wife with her ex-lover. I told her she risks ruining her reputation with such moves,” Kiplangat said.
According to him, Brilliance’s continued connection with DJ Wesso had long been a point of conflict in their marriage. He revealed that he once discovered that she had saved Wesso’s number on her phone, further fueling his suspicions.
However, he strongly denied ever assaulting Brilliance or threatening her with a knife.
“If I had even held up a knife against my wife, she would have injuries. Such claims are absurd.”
Kiplangat also clarified that Vicky left their home long before their fallout over the music video, denying claims that he kicked her out.
Amidst the drama, Brilliance’s mother reportedly warned her against leaving her marriage following her musical success.
"We will disown you if you part ways with your husband. Marriage is for keeps. Take the good and the bad. Don’t let me down. You are the star of the family," she cautioned.
Vicky Brilliance shot to fame in 2021 with the hit song Motiwe (Don’t Go). Her viral song Wababa amassed over 2.4 million views on YouTube.
Beyond music, she is a thriving entrepreneur in the clothing industry.
