Retired Police officer wants Inspector General job

City News

inspector general, Kimayo

A former senior police officer has expressed interest in the vacant position of Inspector General.

Fredrick Mulandi who went into early retirement last year after declining to be vetted by the police vetting panel, now wants to come back and head the police.

He was Deputy Commandant of Administration Police in charge of logistics.

Mulandi alongside four colleagues opted not to face the Johnstone Kavuludi-led vetting panel.

Others were then Western PPO Alfred Ombaba, Kisumu CID boss Zachary Tum, Kiambu CID boss Benard Mate and head of CID in Embu, John Maritim.

Mulandi, 53, now wants to return saying he has vast experience and training that will enable him to run the National Police Service.

“I have been there for long, working hand in hand with Kinuthia Mbugua (now Nakuru Governor) as the logistics head and managed to increase the fleet of AP vehicles,” he told The Nairobian. Mbugua was the AP Commandant before resigning and venturing into elective politics.

The former logistics chief said that as a career policeman, he had immense skills and knowledge in operations, adding that coupled with the training he received in Israel, he was the best suited candidate for the job left vacant following the resignation of David Kimaiyo.

Kimaiyo resigned following a spate of terrorist attacks that left 64 people dead in Mandera.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku was relieved of his duties by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
