Be warned, some city hotels using black magic to woo customers

Could some of the city hotels be using black magic to woo customers?

Well, some Nairobi residents who claim to have witnessed weird happenings in some downtown hotels have a reason to believe so.

James*, a shoe shiner, told The Nairobian that some hotels smear juju on hand towels, plates, doormats and televisions to bind customers who come in contact with any of the ‘treated items’, and turn them into frequent loyal patrons.

“I have seen many people trying witchcraft to prosper in business. While some succeed, others fail because they never stick to the rules. I know this hotel owner in Ngara who had treated his cats to attract customers,” he told The Nairobian.

A taxi driver based on Moi Avenue claimed to have busted a hotel owner performing the rituals.

“I eat at this 24-hour food joint since it is convenient. This particular night, the doors were ‘slightly closed’ and the place was empty. The security guard told me to wait briefly for his bosses to finish their ‘business’,” he said.

“I decided to wait but I could hear strange voices inside, like a man chanting some words and repeating the phrase ‘wateja wengi.’ Seconds later, a man with a leso wrapped around his waist emerged. I was shocked,” he added.

According to Mzee Kobe, a witchdoctor based in Ngara, businessmen flock his offices asking for his services.

“I have treated a number of popular hotels in town and they are doing well. I charge Sh10,000 for the service and I ‘treat’ the premises after every six months. True, we treat anything that a customer is likely to come into contact with. However, the rituals must be conducted at night,” he said.

Helicopter of Christ Ministries bishop Thomas Wahome said he has heard of such cases.

“People have been using witchdoctors to outdo each other.  Such incidents are recorded even in the Bible,” he claimed.
