We must arm ourselves with guns - MCAs

City News

The number of attacks on MCAs by criminals is raising concern in the Houses. Some MCAs have claimed that criminals are targeting them either for political reasons or money.

The complaints came after Mwiki representative Isaac Ngige’s home was allegedly broken into on October 17 by unknown persons. Ngige who was not at home said the gang ransacked the house and took away expensive items.

“I am not sure what they were after, whether to steal, harm or kill me,” said Ngige.

Recently, Viwandani MCA Samwel Nyangwara lost his car.On August 8, nominated member Leah Mumo, in the company of her 13-year-old son, and was allegedly carjacked in Bahati estate only to be set free two days later when the three-man gang bumped into police on patrol.

“They were not regular robbers. They also had political intentions, but we were lucky to sustain minor injuries,” Mumo told The Nairobian.

Ruai rep Daniel Mbugua also claimed there has been several attempts on his life.

“The criminals said they were looking for me, but it happened that I was stuck at a function in Ruai,” Mbugua said.No suspect has been arrested.

The House had earlier accused the executive of overlooking their security prompting, some MCAs to arm themselves with guns.
