An activist has moved to court to sue Governor Evans Kidero for murder.
James Wanjohi, an activist representing hawkers, is accusing Kidero and the Nairobi County Government of the death of two hawkers who were allegedly stabbed and beaten by county askaris.
According to the suit filed at Milimani Law Courts, Wanjohi has sued the county leadership for maiming, stabbing, destruction of property and abuse of human rights.
Speaking to The Nairobian, Wanjohi said he is suing Kidero because the county askaris are his charges.
“I have filed a lawsuit against the governor and his government because despite the complaints I have raised at 10 police stations, officers responsible for these crimes have not been held,” he said.
According to the activist, he has post moterm reports, video evidence and pictures that would serve as evidence for the alleged murders. Wanjohi said that so far, 10 people have died and over 30 are nursing stab wounds.
“We have death certificates and medical reports of all those who have either died or got hurt and are willing testify when the hearing starts. One of the hawkers, Harun Njoroge, was buried last week and it is our intention to ensure the family iscompensated,” he said.
