Rumble in Ruai as wife and ‘mpango’ share dock in court

City News

Two city men have landed in court for receiving more than Sh200,000 from a woman, claiming they were in a position to sell her skin bleaching jelly.

Paul Ngige and Joel Mwangi were accused of obtaining Sh214,000 from Leah Wangui on different dates between September 11 and October 7, promising to connect her to a skin bleaching chemicals deal.

Police said Wangui met Ngige in a matatu on September 11, while going home where the suspect told her he was in skin bleaching business after a brief discussion. They parted ways after exchanging contacts.

Fascinated with the business idea, Wangui said she called Ngige and for more details about the business where after which he introduced her to his friend Mwangi, who allegedly claimed to be in the business too.The prosecution said Wangui travelled to the city from Gilgil when Ngige told her she was needed to deposit Sh120,000 to start the business. She said she only had Sh50,000, which the suspects allegedly took nonetheless on September 19 in Ngara.

Wangui was forced to frequently travel to the city with different amounts as she was reportedly advised by the suspects that she had to first clear the Sh250,000 payment before she could be supplied with the products.

The court heard that the complainant became suspicious when the suspects told her the plane which was meant to deliver the oil from Dubai had developed mechanical problems on September 7. She reported the matter at Kiambu CID headquarters.

The suspects were arrested and arraigned in court but denied knowledge of the woman or the business. They were released on Sh100,000 cash bail. The case will be heard on January 29.
