A former Limuru MP’s son Andrew Mbugua was on July 17 charged with assault.

Mbugua allegedly assaulted a senior Trade Mark East Africa (TMEA) manager, Athman Mohamed ALi, over a love affair on June 21. Mbugua denied the charges when he appeared before the Kibera acting senior principal magistrate Lucas Onyina.

The prosecution told the court that he assaulted Athman at St Austines Academy, a school on Ngong Road.

Police claim that on July 4, Athman, the director of research and learning at TMEA, claimed that Mbugua had taken off with his wife Ann Nyambura with whom they have two children. It is alleged Mbugua and Athman confronted each other at the school where Nyambura had taken the children for swimming on June 21.

Nyambura has custody of the children, a girl aged eight, and a six-year-old boy, while Athman has visitation rights.

The Nairobian has learnt that a senior officer had early in July assigned an independent officer to the case to carry out fresh investigations by revisiting the scene.

This followed alleged conflicting accounts by Athman and Mbugua on the alleged assault. Mbugua is out on a Sh20,000 bail. The case will be heard on November 5.
