Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga who survived death by a whisker when a convoy of his two cars was attacked in Nyandarua recently, has attributed his survival to God.

“When I saw two vehicles trailing us for long, my instincts told me that we were being targeted. I took the Bible opened Psalms 23, which talks of God being my shepherd and I believe that’s what made me to survive during the attack,” Njenga told The Nairobian at his Avenue Park Hospital bed.

Njenga said he held onto his Bible and read it as he was shot by gunmen.

He wore a bullet-proof vest but a bullet hit his shoulder and hand.

The Nairobian spoke to him hours before an operation to remove the bullet lodged in his shoulder.

“Let me assure Kenyans and the world that when I leave the hospital like Biblical Daniel, when he left the forest inhabited by wild animals like lions, I will expand the preaching of the word of God so that it can reach many, including my attackers,” he said.

He has claimed the gunmen are police officers.

During the attack, five people were killed and three survived with bullet wounds. Two of those injured were still at the Kenyatta National Hospital by the time of going to press.
