Mungatana graces Miss Tourism Mombasa

Forget last week’s Pulse exclusive on the juicy behind the scenes drama captured during the Miss Tourism Kwale finals, we have a fresh one from Mombasa.

The Miss Tourism Mombasa County edition went down last Saturday and with an array of models having registered to participate, the stage was set for night of glamour.

The event’s organisers had sent numerous calls to some top Mombasa political leaders inviting them to grace the occasion but all in vain. Even their efforts to get a meeting with them bore no fruit.

But at the last minute, Kenya Ports Authority Chairman Danson Mungatana agreed to be the guest of honour. That is when politics came into play.

The politician got his men to try and change the programme so that he could be listed as the chief guest but it too late.

Seeing that things were not working in his favour, according to sources, he got his men to grill one of the organisers - Hassan Faisal - for over four hours.

“You would rather get me jailed? We approached you early but you declined supporting this event. Mungatana is already here to preside over this event,” Hassan told the politician’s aides who had now camped at Sarova Whitesands, repping for their man.

They even went ahead to threaten that the event would not go on if the mheshimiwa’s demands were not met.

However, the event went on well under heavy security with Mungatana enjoying the catwalk show, which was out of this world.

At the end of it, he was awarded the privilege of crowning the winner of the night Tima Keilah, a University of Nairobi law student.
