Kingof the CBD: Read all about Smitta's eventful life

Social Scene

smitta

These days it seems folks are all about either lounges or locales.

And the nyte scene in the centre of the city lies forgot, yet this is the fulcrum of Nai city.

Tis watt I waz telling one Walter ‘Nyambane’ Mongare a coupla months ago as I presented him with my kitabu ‘Nairobi - a Nyte Runner’s Guide.’ If we ever are, with the city Guv, to get that 24-hour economy thingy going, we gotta start with the night (like that old house song, ‘we dance among the creatures of the night ...’).

So, last week, the Smitta decided to ‘take back the streets’ and night run a week, the way we used to some tyme ago.

Tuesdays at Mojo’s

Next to the terribly loud Tribeka lies the small kilabu called Mojo’s.

You go upstairs n you there are two inner sitting parts, one with a small coffin-like dance bit, giant screens on the wallls.

But yu can also go pose in the balcony bit nje if oxygen is yur shida - or yur a smokie smokes kinda dude/dudette.

I love/d Toosdaes at Mojo’s mostly coz of the uber-cool rock muzik chezwad by one DJ Signal.

I jua ed Stevoski waz happy to see Oktomba end, but at Mojo’s for rockers, tis like Halloween never ends, Tuesdays.

No bitter joint to get yur young mojo-man days back at.

Wednesday @ the D - Spoon

‘Dancing Spoon.’ It has been there like forever. But tis still fun to go there mid-week jionis (as the Mama Ngina Javites jave n rave on caffeine across the streets) n just watch the humanity flow as you sip slow on your Kingfisher (dat waz the Smitta’s first alco kinywaji, n I still chapa it as an appetiser).

Afterwards, yu roll up the stairs to Wine Bar n wakina ‘Uncle Tom’ ( da chief steward) n listen to luvly soul n house music (n watch the yuppies mix freely with the rachets in the dim long pub, complit with fake greek art deco on da walls. Bliss).

I MAX Thursday. @ Arfa Afra Lounge

It has to be the classiest n most priviet of all the pubs n restos in the CBD. The boss, Alexei Serkov, went for a tiered movie look that is never tired, n so the cosy n private atmosphere that this lounge projects. The service from the staff like Chebet is excellent, yu bet, thanks to GM like Bett.

N one can always pop in thru the door n catch a movie, mostly in 3D, like we did the other evening to watch ‘Interstellar.’

Simmering Friday

After dinner at the Fiesta in Chester (where da Smitta will be throwing a njagid floral B - bash next weekend, n where we last launched ‘Meet the Omtits’ exactly a year ago with Phoenix’s Mwazman), meaning to go Tac last Furahiday, we instead ducked into Simmers on Kenyatta Ave, n yeah, all the hoes of the Ave are still having themselves a merry ole tyme theya.

Congolese zizki battered me ear drums till midnight, n the Smitts finally surrendered n skidded out of the 680 streets.

Satos @ Psys

Sumhow, against all odds after being Hooters for yonks, Psys returned as a football bar under the mgmt of the cool dude, Steve. (Here, lets have an MGMT song break n I dedicate KIDS to lil Chelski - ‘ You were a child, walking on yur knees towards, unafraid of con-se-quen-ces ...’).

I sat with the Blue Sudanesey (n fake Mourinho) as Chelsea out-witted n beat Liverfools. Ndoch’s Red Devils just managed to survive. Then twas fun n games upstairs with kina Bett n ‘Gorgeous’ Georges (far from gorgeous dude) as City drew with QPR - n we did the Austin kuku dance. Woo hoo!

Sunday mornings at Giggles

One advantage of ne’er-been-a-church-goer is getting to mock the alco-blow hours.

So at one, waz at Giggles with colleague Kiundu Waweru (he loves books n booze more than football n boobs), Kent the (it rhymes with ‘kent’, esp if yu from SA) whose no good with the ladies (no wonder we were in a late night bull ring), old ‘Congolese rocker’ buddy Mike Owuor, n my old mate Martin Mwangi, with whom we used to go rocking at Mwenda’s with, years ago in the oh-ohs.

I’ll never forget the tyme dude jumped on a table in the spirit of rock, fell off, n vunjad his mguu! Poor feller. Lol.
