After multiple-award winning hip hop star arrived in the country last week on a private visit, word was out that he was scheduled to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta in State House.
The Gone Till November star was first received at the Supersport Film Studios where he was having a special recording session. He also met a number of artistes who had trooped there to 'earn' themselves five seconds of fame; taking photos with him and posting them on online outlets.
It was during this time when a broker, or do we say a con promoter called the media reporting that Wyclef was going to meet President Uhuru that Wednesday evening over a charity 'a deal'. That was never to happen. In fact, State House seemed to know nothing about the said visit. That night, Wyclef was at Kempinski Hotel in Westlands, wishing the night away.
At the time, Akon had just landed here. Uhuru was waiting for him. On Thursday (last week) evening, photos of Akon in State House with the president were forwarded to the media by the Presidential Press Service. The like of Dennis Itumbi were confirming the news through online postings. Akon and Uhuru had struck the Lighting Africa programme to Kenya deal to assist Kenya in lighting up Kibera as part of a government programme to transform the slum. In a few, he was out of the country. Mission had been accomplished.
The Wyclef State House 'flop' simply exposed our music and showbiz promoters yet again as fake. And that remains so until State House states otherwise. Shame!
