Hot as news: The return of the sexy tv girls

Features

About a week ago, a celebrity couple broke into a fight over a TV girl whose lithe and lean-as-a-panther looks got the man confessing. It was a Friday evening. The man asked for the remote and changed the channels saying he wanted to see how the popular TV girl was looking on that day. Obviously hurt by his statement, the lady refused to let go the remote. "I even have her number," said the man adding he indeed had been communicating with the lady for quite some time. "I know what is going on between the two of you. I have been following...," she burst before a heated argument stated leading to a fight. Since, the family no longer tunes to the said station. Friday evening news hour has become fashionable with what is seen as the new hot girls on TV. In fact, just like ladies love rugby just because they admire the players' six-pack, men are hardly watching TV to get the juicy news but rather to see the TV girls strutting with their killer looks. And ladies are equally hooked up too as the eagerly wait to see what outfit their favourite anchor shows up in, how she has chosen to accessorise it, what colour her nail polish is, what lipstick or just lip-gloss she has on and so on. They want to know if the skirt she wears today is shorter than yesterday's and will she, maybe do us the favour, not to hide her legs behind the desk too often and if she does hide as if she does, the remote will quickly get us to the next channel. In fact, even before the presenters go through the headlines of the day, we would probably have zapped through all the networks to pick the winning woman anchor of the evening and, not surprisingly, the channel we shall give most attention tonight. I would be the last to suggest that the news stories are irrelevant. Of course not. And they are not even boring, at least not all of them. But the truth is, for most of us, it is so much more enjoyable and exciting to watch the female anchors strut their stuff. With most national networks broadcasting prime time news at the same time, and with the stories being more or less identical, the competition to garner more viewers has become tough to the extent that the producers have turned to the oldest trick in the book, the one which never fails to get results: beauty and sex appeal. So much that you could actually watch 'naked news' online on a subscription website. Your fee will allow you access female anchors presenting real time news fully naked in at least three different languages. Over the years, the trend has seen more and more male news anchors being replaced by women – even for the sports and financial segments. And not by any randomly chosen women whose main qualifications are intelligence and eloquence, but are primarily more attractive representatives of their peers. Today's news anchors are beauties in their own right. And they also know how to dress and accessorise to look their best on the screen. Top female TV presenters who have acquired celebrity status are able to afford a personal stylist to put together a new ensemble up to date with the latest trends. They are also accompanied by a team of makeup and hair technicians. Fashion and beauty has become so big on prime time that tweets about a figure hugging bandage dress are most likely to trend side by side with the breaking news. The hemlines are getting shorter and the weaves longer. Only time will tell how far this battle will go. But as for the viewers all we can do is sit back and flip the channels for the hot stuff, away from the news.
