Kajwang' fights back over Duale's corruption allegations

National Assembly Majority Leader Adan Duale and Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang' traded accusations over alleged corruption in the Immigration ministry when Kajwang' was the boss.

Duale, who fired first on Wednesday, insisted that he had evidence against Kajwang' and vowed to furnish the details to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, the Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo, the Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko and the House committee on National Administration and Security.

Kajwang' has given Duale a three-day ultimatum to publish the details of the allegations on a national platform.

"Duale has said that I issued over 500,000 permits, citizenship certificates and passports illegally. I want him to publish each and every passport, work permit, citizenship certificate that I issued irregularly giving details of what was irregular about the issuance," said Kajwang' at a news conference at Parliament Buildings yesterday.

The senator, who was accompanied by MPs Simba Arati (Dagoretti North) and Fred Outa (Nyando), said Duale should buy space in the media and publish the details "including who paid who, the amount, the account and for what".

He added: "If Duale does not publish that information within three days, he will face one of the biggest court battles in his life. I have never sued anybody in my life, but this time I will go the full hog."

But Duale, who spoke in his office just hours after Kajwang' had dared him to give the evidence, said he stood by his remarks that Kajwang' had illegally issued work permits.

"I stand by what I said. I am prepared and my lawyer is Ahmednasir Abdullahi. I spoke in my official capacity as a Jubilee leader. We have documents to back our allegations and I don't need three days, but only two hours," said the majority leader.
