My Style - Yemi Alade

Pulse: Describe your style?

Yemi Alade: I call it Afropolitan: a modern blend of African prints and western designs.

P: What do you never leave the house without?

 YA: My sunglasses.

P: How many pairs do you have?

 YA: So many that my younger brothers always take them away. By the time I landed in Kenya I had already bought three pairs. 

P: What fashion trend would you never wear?

 YA: I have no limits to what I would or would never wear.

P: What fashion trend did you never think you would try out?

 YA: The calabash bra synonymous with Zambian women. 

P: What is the most expensive fashion item in your closet?

 YA: A pair of showstopper stilettos with a transparent heel. I spent so much on them that I am even embarrassed to quote the price. 

P: If you were to raid someone’s closet, which celeb would fall victim?

 YA: Solange Knowles. I love the way she rocks her African prints effortlessly and adds a natural twist to it. 

P: What would your ideal man wear?

 YA: How about no clothes? On a serious note though, I would not mind a man who wears print of the right shade and design. 

P: What fashion trend have you witnessed ladies wearing wrong?

 YA: Bra straps showing above clothes. At least if the strap must show let it be the same colour as the top, or go for the classy strapless one. No one needs to know what colour of bra you are wearing.

P: If you were to choose one makeup item only, what would you pick?

 YA: My lipstick since I have good skin and can do without the foundations and concealers. 

P: Speaking of good skin, what is your beauty secret?

 YA: Drink lots of water, eat lots of fruits and never sleep with make up on.

 P: What is the very important piece (V.I.P) in your closet?

 YA: A print tuxedo made by my favourite designer Reni Smith

P: Fashion motto you live by?

 YA: Less is more, simple is the best.

P: What fashion item will you take from your visit to Kenya that is a true piece of art?

 YA: The Maasai necklace. I feel in love with it when I saw photos of it in the plane.
