Miss Kenya to get Miss World Africa crown?

Showbiz

Miss World Kenya Idah Nguma

A debate has been rocking the local glamour world as to whether the current Miss World Kenya, Idah Nguma, 21, should be allowed to take up the Miss World Africa title.

Idah emerged seventh during the London Miss World finals, becoming the top Africa model after Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss, who was crowned Miss World 2014.

Rolene’s crowning could technically mean that she would relinquish the Miss Africa title, which would then go to Idah.

Even though the interpretation of this is not clear, MondayBlues has established that Terry Mungai, the CEO of Ashleys Kenya, which holds the Miss World Kenya rights is seeking clarity on the mater.

“We will pursue the issue and get clarification. Besides, we are so happy for Idah as she did us extremely proud, far above our expectations,” Terry told MondayBlues.

Should the crown be awarded to Idah, she will be the highest rated Kenyan beauty queen in the history of the world’s most prestigious pageantry.

Meanwhile, last Friday, through a report by ABC, Julia Morley, the Miss World chairwoman, announced the pageant is dropping the swimsuit segment from the competition.

And Chris Wilmer, national director of Miss World America/Miss United States told ABC: “It’s not just a beauty contest, it’s ‘beauty with a purpose’. There didn’t seem to be a purpose to have the swimsuit.”
