Infrastructure Principal Secretary, John Mosonik, is expected to tour Taita Taveta next week to unveil the winning contractor for the Voi–Taveta road project that links Kenya to Tanzania.
Speaking in Mombasa, Taita Taveta County Executive in charge of Transport, Alexander Kubo Mwangeka, said that procurement process for the tarmacking of the 90 kilometres road stretch has been finalised.
“We are upbeat as we await the Principal Secretary to visit the county and unveil the road contractor before work starts,” Mwangeka said. In July this year, the government signed a Sh9.8 billion loan with the African Development Bank to finance the construction of the Voi–Taveta road.
The credit facility would be repaid over a period of 40 years. Under the agreement, the grace period for repayment is 10 years and would attracts one per cent interest rate.
Taita Taveta County governor, Eng John Mruttu said the country’s other road projects would also soon be commissioned.
