The lifeless bodies of two people, a man and a woman of Caucasian origin were on Sunday morning discovered at Kiembeni, in Mombasa North.

Police indicated that they have launched investigation into the discovery of the bodies.

''We believe that the two were killed elsewhere and their bodies brought here and dumped,'' Kisauni Police Chief, Mr Christopher Rotich told the media at the scene.

He said that they were yet to ascertain the full identities of the two and that further forensic tests would be conducted.

''At around 6.30 am, we received a call from the public on the findings of these bodies and on arrival found two victims, a man and a woman who appeared to have been hit with blunt objects,'' Rotich said.

In the meantime, the Kenya Tourist Federation (KTF), the umbrella body for tourist activities in the country has ordered for a roll call to be carried in all tourist establishments at the Coast.

''We believe that it is by having the roll call taken that we shall be able to notice whether there are any tourists who have booked into any of our established hotels missing,'' Hersi told The Standard on phone.

He said that the scene where the bodies were discovered is one of the off route areas for tourists.

''We at this moment in time believe that the killings might have taken place elsewhere. But we are asking police to hasten its investigations and find out who the perpetrators of this heinous act are,'' Hersi said.

Also adding its voice to the incident was the Kenya Association of Hotelkeepers and Caterers (KAHC) through its coast branch executive officer, Mr Sam Ikwaye. He said that they have started to liaise with all their members to find out if any guests are missing from their hotels.

''We are leaving everything to police to conduct thorough investigations. Our member hotels have been alerted to provide information on their in-house guests ,'' Ikwaye said.

He said that it is imperative to separate to ascertain whether the bodies of the caucasians discovered are tourists or residents.
