New girl in town: Are you the type of lady who just entertains the boys?

Relationships
Remember those beautiful girls you used to have as close family friends?

Forget the friend zone. This goes way beyond that. When a girl who is a close friend says you are her boy, this means you are in her inner circle as much as you are not her (official) boyfriend. She trusts you and is free with you, sometimes more than she is with her dude. No matter the occasion, she feels comfortable calling you her boy even in front of her boyfriend.

Remember those beautiful girls you used to have as close family friends? You could hang out with them but had to keep your hands off; no sex, no boyfriend-girlfriend relationship. This is the one who used to introduce you to her girls and even participate in deciding who you could date or have a fling with. Besides, she was the social type and the opposite of a gold-digger.

There are traits and unwritten rules that dictate the behaviour of this special friend. Some of the aspects come naturally.

One thing remains fundamental; she is loyal to her boys. She would never let them down or betray them. Whatever secrets they share with her, she always keeps. Her boyfriend knows all too well that for him to maintain that position, he has to put up with the ‘boys’ in her circle; after all ‘her boys’ came before him and know her better than he does. They even know her ex-boyfriends and all the dirt from her past.

She owns a football jersey Whenever the guys are out catching a game and a few pints, she is never left behind and always dons her favourite football club’s jersey such as K’Ogalo, Ingwe, Chelsea or Man U. She actually knows the rules of the beautiful game more than the average football lover. She has the dates  of big matches marked on her calendar and travels with the boys out of town wherever there is an ‘away’ game.

Sex with her boys is a no-no Also known as the ride-or-die chic, this ‘boy’ is well versed with the fact that mixing matters of the heart with true and loyal friendship is a recipe for disaster. If she was to get laid by anyone in the crew, it would get awkward for everybody because suddenly they would have to treat her differently. The moment her heart and legs open to anyone in the crew, there is no going back to being ‘just good friends’. This is recipe for heartbreak and upset. Whether she is crashing at one of her boyfriends’ places or sharing a room with her boys during a trip, her boys must treat her as a boy.

Hook-ups She’s heard the question ‘whose your friend?’ a gazillion times and is always ready to put in a good word for you. She might be protective of some of her friends but she always comes through. Vice versa, she is allowed to get jealous and protective over you around girls who pose as potential girlfriends just to take advantage of you. In fact, she has the last word. If she calls her a ‘bi**h’, keep off that new girl you are trying to introduce to the boys.

She is the scapegoat At least one member in the crew has taken her home to meet the folks during family gatherings for fear of being brandished ‘not straight’ amidst all the ‘why are you not dating yet?’ questions from the parents. She doesn’t mind helping out a ‘brother’ and sees it as a favour which she could one day capitalise on. Since your girlfriend knows her as ‘your boy’ you can always say that you were actually watching a movie with her yet you were in the real sense at your ‘clande’s’ place. Besides, she is known to keep to her lane.

Other girls are simply attention hogs She is protected by the boys and she will always get whatever she wants. Besides, being around the guys all the time has rubbed off on her and she now thinks like the boys. Whenever she’s around her girls, she’s different. She doesn’t always want to be in the spotlight or argue over trivial gossip. She thinks girls are really petty and always trying to seek attention from guys, even the ones she hangs out with.

Prefers her liquor hard It’s public knowledge that girls enjoy their wine... especially those trying to impress on first and second dates. When she links up with the guys, however, this one doesn’t mind sipping on some Jack Daniels, Jameson or whatever it is that’s soothing the guys’ taste buds. Forget the wine. She has no one to impress! Besides, she is down for whatever the guys propose. If they decide on going to Ole Polos for the mafans goat eating, she will be in the mix.
