‘Mine is a business like any other’- lawyer who sells sex toys

Some of the toys Beverly sells

I believe sex is sacred
Not only has Beverly received some flak for her choice of business. She has also been ridiculed and branded names she has never wished for.
"Just because I sell sex toys some people believe that I am a sex maniac; a sex addict, or even worse, a prostitute," Beverly says. "Some suggest that I am a Madam in, renting girls."
Such misconceptions hurt her feelings. But not being the type to be cowed by what others believe, she has trudged on, perhaps, a testimony of her beliefs in human rights.
"Why should I change because someone else views me in certain light?" she asks.
She vows not to change her choices for those who can't accommodate her views.
There are quite a few nights that Beverly regrets. Like when she got a call from an anonymous male caller in Eldoret, at 3am, asking her to recommend a prostitute.
"It felt disgusting," she says. "That has marked the greatest trouble I have had with men. Many of them don't respect my business; they don't see it as a proper venture."
If there is something that she would wish for it would be that she is taken for who she is: a businesswoman.
After all, she says, all the misconceptions about her hold no water.
"I strongly believe that sex is sacred. I believe that it is an act between two (not more) people who have a true connection," she says. "It is not something that you give to everyone you meet and come across."
When she was younger, in her early twenties, she admits, she may have had misplaced beliefs about the act of a man and a woman consummating.
"I am definitely wiser now. I know better. I sell my toys mostly to couples. But I usually tell them that the toy is for spicing things up – not for replacing your partner. You can never replace a human being with a toy," she says.
In the end, she says, human beings are social animals. "We all want to be touched; to be told we are loved; to be held and to be kissed. All these things cannot be given by a toy."
