Action shift’s to Kisumu’s Mamboleo Show ground, and Kisumu Polytechnic from Friday for the fourth round of the National Sevens Rugby Series.

A year ago, the event nearly failed to materialise after the sponsor and then Chairman Fidel Odinga passed on.

Host club Kisumu RFC was plunged into financial problems following Fidel’s demise.

But now, the Kisumu based side is sponsored by United Millers and it would be interesting to see how they perform after the flour milling and bread making company came to their rescue.

Kenya Harlequin, winners of the Driftwood Sevens are top seeds for this tournament and headline Pool A, which also features Blak Blad, series and reigning Dala champions Top Fry Nakuru and Comras.

During last year’s event, Top Fry Nakuru narrowly defeated Quins 15-14 to clinch the Main Cup final.

Series leaders Menengai Cream Homeboyz are in Pool B with Mwamba, who are for the fourth successive tournament paired up with Menengai Oilers.

Hosts Kisumu complete the group’s composition.

The Strathmore Leos have been grouped in Pool C with Resolution Impala Saracens, Mean Machine and Nondescripts who have been invited to feature in the top tier division of the competition by hosts Kisumu.

Pool D comprises Kabras Sugar, KCB, Makueni and the Western Bulls who have also been invited to the division competition by the hosts.

The second tier competition at the Dala Sevens will be played on Friday and Saturday at the Kisumu Polytechnic and ASK Mamboleo Showground respectively.

Division II action will start at 8am on both pitches on Friday, before converging at the Mamboleo Showground from 10am till 6 pm the same day. Saturday’s Division II action will be played entirely at the Kisumu Polytechnic.
