CORD will win if Raila Odinga backs Moses Wetang'ula

The endless squabbles in ODM and CORD depict a group of politicians who have run out of political ammunition, and who are headed for a loss. Without the political wit and youthful energy of Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba, ODM and CORD are like a radio running on dead batteries. The slurred, almost inaudible voice coming from this radio cannot enchant the hungry ears of many an opposition man and woman, let alone woo potential disciples.

ODM has repeatedly proved to be undemocratic, a case in point being the party’s botched elections. Subsequent inaction by party chief Raila ODinga, and the widespread allegations that the so-called men in black were connected with key ODM insiders unfortunately helped reinforce the fears that Raila cannot be trusted. While calling for his colleagues in the Opposition to back his presidential candidature, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka cited Raila’s previous failures as proof that the veteran Opposition politician won’t make it come 2017.

Raila is no longer the symbol of national unity he once was. His ceaseless disregard for constitutional provisions, and blatant refusal to embrace rightful channels as a means of easing political atmosphere, sadly make him a bitter combatant unwilling to compromise for the greater good of the nation.

Pollsters are not favouring Raila. Latest Synovate reports indicate President Uhuru Kenyatta would floor Raila were elections to be held today. Coupled with the fact that CORD is yet to pick its party flag bearer, it is unfathomable to picture a robust opposition capable of unseating the incumbent come next year. As such, Raila should quit active politics, and back Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula. What about Kalonzo? Well, I presume a majority of Kenyans are yet to forgive his unrepentant betrayal way back in 2007 when the country needed him the most. More so, Wetang’ula has the potential of uniting Luhyas, and thus countering the departure of Ababu Namwamba
