Parents now want the Government to foot the cost of repairing school buildings that have been burnt in the ongoing arson attacks.

They said students in the affected schools may not even know the cause of the fires.

Speaking to journalists yesterday, parents of Kiamworia Secondary School in Gatundu South said it was becoming evident that most fires being witnessed in schools countrywide may not have been started by students, and therefore it would be unfair to burden parents with repair costs.

A newly built 170-bed dormitory at the school estimated at Sh5 million was burnt down by unknown people on Wednesday night.

Students said they were in their classrooms for evening preps when the fire broke out. No one was injured during the incident.

The Chairperson of National Council for Children Service Joyce Wanjiku Ngugi called on the Government to find a lasting solution on the current crisis in schools.
