The threat the youths face today is real and the magnitude more than we sometimes imagine. The use and abuse of drugs is so rampant that a generation is at risk of destruction.
Parents have to shoulder this responsibility in curbing drug use and abuse. Drug use has taken new dimensions and angles. A majority of parents have very little information about drug abuse.
They make no effort, perhaps in their busy schedule to provide for the very children who stare at the real dangers of drug abuse. Parents probably know about alcohol and cigarettes as the commonly known drugs. When children resort to other types of drugs like heroine, bhang and cocaine among others, parents become clueless.
In the recent days, the country's attention has been drawn to forums organised by young school children disguised as parties only to turn out to be forums where they engage in drugs use and immorality.
The Government and agencies mandated to fight drug use and abuse must remain faithful to their duties.
As we join the world to mark the world's anti drugs day, let us all remember everyone of us has a role to play in fighting the menace and keep our society drug free.
