Machakos woman kills daughter over love affair

A mother’s anger turned fatal after what was intended to be disciplinary action on her daughter left her dead.

Residents of Kamangulu village in Masinga are still reeling in shock after news went round the 17-year-old Form Two student at Yielanthi Secondary School had succumbed to injuries.

 Witnesses told The Standard that the woman had been bitterly opposed to her daughter’s love relationship with a boda boda operator and even had him arrested by police over the matter.

On Tuesday night, the woman beat her daughter senseless after discovering that her relationship with the man was still blossoming.

According to a witness, the woman had been accusing her daughter of engaging in a love affair at the expense of her education.

IN CUSTODY

Masinga OCPD Mashua Juma confirmed the incident yesterday and said detectives were questioning the woman, who is in police custody. “I can confirm the unfortunate incident happened and the girl was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital,” said Juma.

 He said the suspect would be charged in court once investigations are completed.

 And elsewhere, commuters on the Kangundo-Nairobi highway have decried the return of public service vehicle impunity on the roads.

They are now calling on police and the National Transport and Safety Authority to take immediate action to avert road carnage.

 The commuters expressed fears that most matatus plying the route were speeding and carrying excess passengers, which they termed a   ticking time bomb.

The commuters also pointed an accusing finger at managements of the various matatus Saccos, whose vehicles ply the route for failure to ensure compliance to road safety guidelines.
