Agricultural sector grows by 6.2 per cent to become economy's biggest booster

Agriculture was the biggest driver of the country's growth in 2015 stamping its position as the economy's back-bone.

According to the Economic Survey 2016, improved production in maize, fresh horticultural produce, marketed milk, wheat and rice saw the sector's gross value addition improve from 3.5 per cent in 2014 to 6.2 per cent in 2015. Now, agriculture accounts for 30 per cent of the total national gross domestic product.
