Four presidential candidates say IEBC has lost credibility, should be disbanded

Four presidential candidates in the 2013 polls have supported calls for the disbandment of the electoral commission.

Musalia Mudavadi, Peter Kenneth, Martha Karua and James ole Kiyiapi demanded that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) be reconstituted.

Mr. Mudavadi said: "IEBC doesn't have any trust residue. The national consensus is that it can't be trusted to oversee credible elections."

Ms. Karua said the electoral agency has lost credibility.

"The commissioners must go home. We want a fair and free election and IEBC cannot deliver this given corruption scandals some of the commissioners are involved in," she said.

Prof Kiyiapi urged IEBC commissioners to read the mood of the nation and quit.

"In a football match, players from both teams must be happy for the referee to say he did a good job. But for IEBC, it is only the Government that is lauding them but not the rest of Kenyans. That means something is terribly wrong," he said.
